The classic mistake
Replacing “pin” with “board” in a hurry turns Pinterest into Boardterest and spinning into spinning-board, because a plain find and replace has no idea what a word is. Whole-word matching is the default here for that reason: it changes the standalone word and leaves every longer word that contains it alone. Switch to “any part of a word” only when you mean to edit inside words.
Regex without fear
Three patterns cover most bulk edits. \b marks a word boundary, so \bpin\b matches the word and nothing else. \d+ matches any run of digits, useful for renumbering a list. And $1 in the replacement reuses whatever the first bracket captured, so (\w+) ideas can become Ideas about $1. Everything else is a variation on those three.
Preview before you copy
The result panel counts how many lines changed and shows each one with the old and new wording side by side. A replace that touches forty lines when you expected three is the signal that your pattern was too loose — fix it before the text reaches twenty pin descriptions.
How to use Find & Replace
- Paste the text you want to edit.
- Enter what to find and what to put in its place.
- Check the preview, then copy the result.
Find & Replace FAQ
Does it change the original text?
No. Your input stays as it is; only the result panel changes.
Can I use capture groups?
Yes. Brackets in the pattern and $1, $2 in the replacement work as expected.
What if my pattern is invalid?
The tool reports the error and leaves the text untouched instead of failing silently.
