The limits that actually matter
Pin title: 100 characters, but roughly 50–60 show in a feed. Description: 800 allowed, about 500 indexed. Board description: 500. Profile bio: 160. Alt text: 125 for screen readers.
Why the visible limit is shorter
Pinterest does not fail silently — it truncates. A title that reads perfectly at 90 characters can lose its payoff in the feed, which is why the counter warns at 60 rather than 100.
Counting words as well as characters
Descriptions of 40–80 words tend to read naturally and still carry keywords. Under 20 words usually means the pin is not saying enough to be found.
How to use Character Counter
- Paste your text.
- Check the counts against each limit.
- Trim anything in red.
Character Counter FAQ
Do emoji count as one character?
Visually yes, but some emoji are stored as several code points. The counter measures what the platform will count.
What about hashtags?
They count toward the description limit like any other text.
Is there a minimum?
No hard minimum, but very short descriptions rank poorly.
